I focus on three big things when it comes to networking in media without a formal background:
- Lead with hustle, not a résumé: I openly share that I came from outside the field and self-taught everything. That story is my icebreaker and credibility builder when I meet people.
- Create value first: I offer help, ideas, or coverage instead of immediately asking for opportunities. That’s how I landed early on-camera and freelance chances.
- Show up everywhere: Events, red carpets, panels, and online. I treat every appearance as practice and promotion for the next connection.
