Hi, I’m Paul Ryken from Minimalist Journeys. How can I help?

In this case, the Kerama Islands guide you’ve seen is based on our experience but written to be practical rather than as a personal diary, so I only refer to my own experiences briefly and indirectly there.

From that trip, the standout personal highlights for me were:

  1. Exploring each island through its observatories and viewpoints rather than just staying on the beach
  2. Snorkelling at several different beaches (especially Ama and Furuzamami on Zamami, and Aharen/Tokashiku on Tokashiki) to compare coral and marine life
  3. Using local buses, bikes and walking instead of hiring a car, which slowed the pace down and let us really notice how different each island feels
  4. Dropping into the visitor centres on arrival and chatting with staff for local tips, not just relying on online research

If you’d like a more story-style account (what a full day actually looked like for us, favourite spots, surprises, mistakes), I can walk you through a “day in the Keramas” from my perspective.

What kind of experiences are you most interested in – wildlife, viewpoints, or everyday/local life on the islands?
