There are not formal, peer‑reviewed statistics yet on the specific effectiveness of my own programs, book, or podcast in the way a clinical trial might measure a treatment. My work is evidence‑informed (drawing on grief research and psychology) and experience‑based (my journey and thousands of client and listener interactions).

What I do track are qualitative outcomes people report after coaching, courses, and consuming my content, such as:

  1. Feeling less isolated and “crazy” in their grief
  2. More ability to function day to day
  3. Increased meaning, purpose, and spiritual openness

I also align my GEMS framework (Gratitude, Exercise/Sleep, Mindfulness, Self‑care) with research that shows each of these reduces anxiety, depression, and complicated grief, even if that research is not branded specifically as “Brian D. Smith’s method.”

If hard numbers and formal studies are essential, I encourage people to combine what I offer with resources from established grief centers and peer‑reviewed literature, and to treat my work as one of several supports, not a stand‑alone “treatment.”

Would you like an overview of the research behind any one part of my GEMS framework, like mindfulness or exercise, and its impact on grief?
